Pottery Find

On our Rhino ride today about 4 miles up the main trail to Hwy 68 we headed east off trail up a wash toward a prominent pointed mountain.

About 3 miles up the wash we cam upon a willow, indicating a spring.

Looking around we spotted a cave opening a couple hundred yards up the side of a hill overlooking the wash.

The cave had one large opening and several smaller ones that were partially  closed off with stacked rocks.

The cave was about 12 to 15 feet deep and high enough you could stand in the back end and had a soft sandy floor.

As we explored the site a small herd of Burros curiously watched.

At the mouth of the cave we found a few dozen pottery shards.  From the off trail location and overlooking the spring these were likely Mojave  Native American.

Took them home an laid them in the garden by the water spigot next to the driveway.
